Research in I/O psychology covers the spectrum of work-related issues. As an I/O psychologist, your training as a scientist-practitioner prepares you to develop research ideas that address practical issues and provide realistic solutions. The majority of I/O research examines the relationships between variables and the influence of individual characteristics on these relationships. Popular areas of study within I/O include recruitment, selection, job performance, leadership, personality, teams, and work-family conflict. Published studies on these topics and others can be found in top journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, The Academy of Management Journal, and Personnel Psychology.
At FIU, graduate students have the opportunity to work with professors from the Psychology department as well as affiliated faculty members from the Business school. Students are encouraged to get involved in current research projects as well as create their own studies. Students are able to collaborate with faculty members and fellow graduate students. Current research at FIU includes, but is not limited to, issues related to turnover in the healthcare industry, counterproductive work behaviors, corporate social responsibility, and proactive personality.
