On Wednesday June 27, 2012 the Metropolitan Center held the Hurricane Andrew 20 Years Later Conference at the FIU Kovens Center. Dr. Richard Olson opened the discussion with a twenty year comparison of demographic, economic and insurance data for the Tri-county area. The first panel focused on the twenty years since Hurricane Andrew with an emphasis on economic changes, building code compliance and general changes since 1992. This panel included the following speakers: Dr. Jeffrey Stone, Dr. Robert Cruz, the Honorable Gwen Margolis, Chris Kilroy and Chuck Lanza. The second panel dealt with insurance issues including regulation and rates, and had the following notable speakers: Sean Shaw, Dr. Robert Hartwig and Dr. Shahid S. Hamid.
